Susan Rogers and I were kayaking in the Hudson River, just south of Saugerties lighthouse in Saugerties, Ulster Co. There is a blue roofed house that sits on a narrow peninsula . Just south of it, there is a bay on the western shore. In that bay we were watching peeps on the water chestnut when we noticed a larger bird way out. We were amazed to find a Whimbrel working the water chestnut. The bird moved around a bit, but stayed in the area. It was still there as it was getting dark.
