I have seen, outside NYC, the tricks they use to keep the CG away, while
the CG frolicked right nearby (fake wolves etc)- I wrote to Mayor Bloomberg:

There is no place for comments on the NYT website.

Hi Sharon, et al,

Socially acceptable does make it sound like this whole exercise is merely
an excuse to get rid of those annoying things that keep crapping on the
lawn. It looks like the agriculture department is running the show, so that
would probably be the place to file a complaint.

Meanwhile, poking around on the NY Times Web site, I found the following:

Perhaps many of you have seen this but just in case:

"In New York City, the report says, the current goose population of 20,000
to 25,000 is “five times the amount that most people would find socially
acceptable,” suggesting the number would be reduced to about 4,000. "

Socially acceptable? I dont think I need to express what this sounds like.
It is horrible and does anyone know who to contact to complain??!
