Betsy and I took a late afternoon drive to look for the Snowy Owl reported
east of Marshall Road a few days ago. No luck with the owl but while
looking for that, we had a LAPLAND LONGSPUR with about a dozen HORNED LARKS
and a NORTHERN HARRIER about a half-mile east of Marshall Road. Then a
little further east down Lakeshore Road, we came upon a large flock of
juncos feeding along the road edge. Among them was what appeared to be a
male OREGON JUNCO. While attempting to digiscope the junco (essentially
unsuccessful), I heard a COMMON REDPOLL. I looked up into the tree by the
road and there were four COMMON REDPOLLS. The junco and Redpolls were at
11213 Lakeshore Road. I did not see any feeders in the area but the juncos
are likely to come back to the road edge tomorrow.

We ended the day at Wruck Road in Hartland, ½ mile south of Rt. 104,
enjoying three SHORT-EARED OWLS with Corey Callaghan, who already had them
when we pulled up.

Good birding!

Willie
