>From a couple of vantage points in Manhattan (Central Park and stops along the
>Hudson river from the 100's downtown to lower Manhattan) there was a somewhat
>unsteady migration movement much of the day even with spotty light drizzles
>passing and a very low cloud deck - still moving overhead thru about the whole
>day were Y.-s. Flickers and American Robins in modest numbers, plus Cedar
>Waxwings in high-hundtrds numbers (a few flocks up to 100++) and also Blue
>Jays & blackbirds (seeming to be mainly C. Grackles with smaller numbers of
>Red-winged BB's), while Yellow-rumped [Myrtle] Warblers were in most any
>fair-size or larger area of lawn, semi-open areas, and moving along the
>river-edge as well, with more modest numbers of Palm (both "western" &
>"yellow" types) Warbler on less-busy lawns and fields plus the scattered few
>in odd little spots, and White-throated Sparrows, plus again the relatively
>fewer odd (outside of Central or Riverside Parks) Chipping, Swamp, and even a
>few White-crowned (Hudson river greenway plantings) Sparrows as well. There
>seemed to be even more of a turnover from neotropical-wintering species
>towards the shorter-distance migrants and there were Dark-eyed Juncos in some
>spots downtown, in keeping with that... of finches, there actually seemed to
>be a decent Amer. Goldfinch movement late in the day... I came up with a
>couple of Purple Finch in Central (& no siskins, but was not really searching
>for them today). In sheer numbers of birds on the move during the day, very
>strong movement... but not anything like fallout in any particular place I
>visited... (and did not get over to Bryant Park, which can act as a
>mini-barometer in that it has a more regular coverage than some of the other
>small mid-Manhattan green-spaces...) A fair number of raptors were also
>moving even in the dank weather but with a good NE tailwind providing good
>assist in their migrations.

Relatively speaking, the east coast is "awash" in N.Wheatears just lately...
typical timing for that long-long distance passerine.

good October birding,
