On Tuesday, Betsy and I arrived at the Krull Park recreational fields (Olcott Beach, Niagara County) to see Meadowlarks decorating the grass. I counted 62 individuals with binoculars and had to leave out some birds that were just beyond my range of confident ID. This is the highest count I have ever had in the State, by far. Given the decline of this and other grassland species in recent decades, it was heartening to see so many birds.
