A probable Manx Shearwater was observed and photographed this evening by an
experienced birder between 4:30 and 5:00 on the Hudson River north of the
Newburgh-Beacon Bridge, across from the Central Hudson power plant.
The bird was well described and upwards of 15 photos were taken using an
iPhone 5, which were enlarged and posted along with more details, including
the GPS coordinates, on the New York Birders Facebook page.
Many thanks to Deb Kral for her efforts to get the information out.
This bird did not appear to be headed south; rather, was relatively
stationary for about 30 minutes after which the observer had to leave the
area.
A report will be made to NYSARC.
