At about 7:00AM this evening a wave of Common Nighthawks flew west across Heckscher State Park, perhaps some of the same birds observed by Derek Rogers in nearby Sayville. We conservatively estimated about ninety birds. After milling around Heckscher for a short while, the birds headed south over the Great South Bay.
