January 9  -   A female Tufted Duck was found about 150  yards before the 
end of Bird Island Pier (where it is elevated and the  cable railings end. 
Initially it was seen at about 11:15 to 11:45 AM at the edge  of the ice about 
40 yards from the pier.  It was close to the New York side  and a little 
more than a mile south of the Peace Bridge. 
 
The immature male King Eider was about 100 yards down stream (north) of  
Nichols Marine.  Nichols Marine is about a half mile North of the Peace  
Bridge in Fort Erie, Ontario.  
 
Also seen were:
5,900 Greater Scaup    .......that can make it difficult to  find the 
Tufted Duck
430 Canvasbacks
110 Redheads
1,100 Common Mergansers      about 80% off Squaw Island
700 Red-breasted Mergansers
Hooded Merganser
1,500 Bufflehead
5 Tundra Swans
4 Long-tailed Ducks
Double-crested Cormorant
3,200 Common Goldeneye
2 Ring-necked Ducks
