I observed a Red-necked Grebe on Tappen Beach in Sea Cliff, NY today. It
was over on the other side near North Hempstead Beach Park, floating and
bobbing in front of the various boats and piers. Also observed a seal in
the water.

"The assumption that animals are without rights, and the illusion that our
treatment of them has no moral significance, is a positively outrageous
example of Western crudity and barbarity. Universal compassion in the only
guarantee of morality."
