Subject: [Ontbirds] Volunteer counters needed for Niagara River Corridor IBA
census

**The following message has been approved by the Ontbirds Moderator**

Bird Studies Canada’s Ontario Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBA)
Program is looking for volunteers interested in covering a section of the
Niagara River for a census on the weekend of the OFO Niagara gull trip. The
census will happen during the day of Saturday, November 29 (the OFO outing is
the next day) and you can sign up to cover a section for an hour or more based
on your availability or interest. We will host a wrap-up meeting after the
census starting at 3pm that will end in time for you to get to Jean Iron’s Gull
ID Workshop (see http://www.jeaniron.ca/2014/gullsOFO.htm).

The Niagara River Corridor is a globally significant Important Bird and
Biodiversity Area, recognized for the annual concentration of several species
of gulls and waterbirds. For more information about the Niagara River Corridor
IBA please see the site summary on the IBA Canada website:
http://ibacanada.org/site.jsp?siteID=ON002&lang=EN

The information collected during the census will be entered using the new IBA
Canada eBird Protocol (
http://ebird.org/content/canada/news/new-iba-canada-protocol-launched-on-ebird-canada/)
and incorporated into the IBA Canada database to keep the information about
this site up-to-date.

For more information or to get involved, please contact Mike Burrell by phone
(1-888-448-BIRD(2473) x 167) or email (mburr...@bsc-eoc.org) by Wednesday
November 26.

The IBA Program is an international initiative to identify, monitor, and
conserve the world’s most important sites for birds and biodiversity
coordinated by BirdLife International. Bird Studies Canada coordinates the
program in Ontario. Bird Studies Canada thanks the Ontario Trillium Foundation
for supporting the IBA Program
