The extra heavy police presence today at West End Jones Beach was due to the (very belatedly, I hear) taking down of last of the Holiday Spectacular light show structures. A bad choice of days for them, in the gusty freezing winds, but if all goes well maybe they will be cleared out by tomorrow. West End is usually birder friendly as long as we patrons behave within expected norms.
