Highlights of reports received February 7 through February 12 from the Niagara Frontier Region include BOHEMIAN WAXWING, PINE WARBLER and HARLEQUIN DUCK. In Niagara County, at the Lake Ontario shore, February 8 and 10, a single BOHEMIAN WAXWING at Fort Niagara State Park. The BOHEMIAN WAXWING was among 30 CEDAR WAXWINGS, 4 AMERICAN ROBINS and 4 PURPLE FINCHES, feeding in the fruit trees at the park's north entrance booths. On the Niagara Peninsula of Ontario, an immature male PINE WARBLER has been at a suet feeder in Port Weller since mid- January, at 709 Read Road, at the north end of the road at Lake Ontario. Plentiful waterfowl on the upper Niagara River were highlighted by two separate HARLEQUIN DUCKS, a male and a female, seen from the pier at the north end of Squaw Island Park in Buffalo's Black Rock section. Other waterfowl on the river - abundant COMMON GOLDENEYES and COMMON MERGANSERS, plus small numbers of LONG-TAILED DUCKS, LESSER SCAUP, WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS and SURF SCOTERS. At the Mid-River Marina in Tonawanda - 14 TUNDRA SWANS, AMERICAN WIGEON, a pair of RING-NECKED DUCKS and numbers of LESSER SCAUP. Also 15 GREAT BLUE HERONS and a roosted BALD EAGLE at the marina. Several GLAUCOUS GULLS on the upper river, and a pair of BALD EAGLES at the Strawberry Island nest. Dunkirk Harbor also shelters waterfowl on Lake Erie - at least 12 species on February 11 highlighted by adult males of both SURF SCOTER and RUDDY DUCK, plus 12 distant BALD EAGLES and a PEREGRINE FALCON on the power plant. February 9 in Buffalo, 2 COMMON RAVENS, mobbed by AMERICAN CROWS, flying past the intersection of Delaware and Amherst Streets. At several locations in the Lake Ontario Plains of Niagara and Orleans Counties, flocks of 500 or more SNOW BUNTINGS, with smaller numbers of HORNED LARKS and up to 40 LAPLAND LONGSPURS. Also in the Lake Ontario Plains, 7 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS at a feeder in the lakeshore community of Sunset Beach in Carlton. Flocks of SNOW BUNTINGS and HORNED LARKS also attracted to farmlands in Genesee County. And, two to three SNOWY OWLS continue at the Batavia Airport and a single SNOWY OWL and 2 BLACK SCOTERS at the Erie Basin Marina in Buffalo.
