Hempstead Lake SP 13 Apr

We finally had a small wave of warblers this morning consisting of PINE, PALM,
YELLOW-RUMPED and BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS. Other recent additions were
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET and BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER. Surprising was the lack of any
sparrow movement. While the Tree Swallows came down over South Pond, for he
most part, they were foraging way up in the air.

A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK posed in the woods close to the stream path until driven
off by the Blue Jays, then settling not far off. It seems everyone has a camera
these days. Before the jays got too rambunctious, there was a great photo-op
going. Not to be overlooked, a pair of brilliant male WOOD DUCKS livened the
parking lot pond.
