Since its launch in 2002, this citizen science project from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology has become an indispensable tool for researchers and birders alike, featured in numerous peer-reviewed and popular media. The eBird database recently marked its 250-millionth observation and is quickly becoming a major enterprise encompassing ornithological, ecological, sociological, and statistical research and application. Learn about its history, design, utility, and future from Andrew Farnsworth, a research associate at the Lab of Ornithology and a member of the NYC Audubon board.
