Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City
Sunday, 22 January, 2017

A first-winter-plumaged Red-headed Woodpecker continues today in the vicinity of (a path just west of) Fifth Avenue near East 68th Street, often a bit north of the rustic pavillion on the rock outcrop at The Dene (officiaI name of this area in Central) - this bird, which has begun to see some red yet in its head feathering, & has some wavy black stripes thru each of its white wing patches, has been seen by many hundreds of birders thru the past few weeks at this location.

Among additional species of wild birds seen in the past week in Central Park have been these, many ongoing, in various locations; the uncommon ducks at The Pond (Pintail, Teal, & Wood) there were with the lone Am. Coot on the east shore of the Hallett Sanctuary &/or in & around the phragmites in that vicinity this morning. A fair number of "half-hardy" types were continuning in the SE part of the park as well, such as R-c Kinglet, Hermit Thrush, Gray Catbird, Brown Thrasher, & also species such as Brown Creeper, Carolina Wren, Fox Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow, & more.
