I was so surprised to see this. Large black woodpecker, crow sized, red on head, prominent white wing patches. So it leap from perch directly west of The Cloisters and fly south just above tree line. Strong,direct, undulating flight, white wing patches clearly visible in flight. Was told by local birder one was seen north of this area 2 weeks ago. "
