My contribution to the photographic record of the Corn Crake can be found at
my web site http://stevewalternature.com/ . Congratulations Ken and Sue on
this spectacular find.

I had a longer trip to get to Cedar Beach than I usually would. I was back
at the Quaker Ridge hawk watch in Greenwich for another 200+ Red-shouldered
Hawk tally. To put that in perspective, the daily high at this site before
this year was 129, and the yearly average was still down at 171 (despite
over 1000 in 2014). I keep seeing them kettle and barrel through in groups
of up to a dozen, yet it's still hard to believe.

And if the day needed more excitement, a group of 3 Sandhill Cranes flew by
to the south of the watch. I posted a picture on the Recent Work page. It's
not a picture I'm proud to show off, but it does say "that really happened".
