*NY County Highlights* (Winter rankings):

• Brant (18+), Gadwall (9+), Hooded Merganser (male) & Red-breasted
Merganser (3).

Spotted several score of Ring-billed Gulls settling on a portion of the
Harlem River shortly before low tide anticipating where the mud flats would
be exposed just a few minutes after they arrived. They were here in good
numbers yesterday feeding on the flats.

*1st hour*: *16 spp.*; *2nd*: *+2 (45 min.)* = *18 spp.*

There's a pair of Red-tailed Hawks in East Harlem that perch on the towers
of the Robert F. Kennedy (Triboro) Bridge spanning the Harlem River. I've
seen both a light & a dark belly banded hawk in the area. Yesterday the
darker bird was seen flying from Randall's Island with a branch in its bill
and carrying it towards 1st Ave. on Manhattan along 119th St. I tried
locating the hawk & possible nest with no luck.

Both hawks can be seen on the RFK Bridge on this checklist from 26-Jan-2018:
