On my way home from shopping on Saturday afternoon, the above bird flew across Ostrander Ave, between Route 58 & Middle Rd, Riverhead. It landed in a tree behind the empty bank building, and in the time it took to bring my binoculars into play, the Rough-legged was gone. I rode around for awhile trying to press my luck, but was unsuccessful.
.Is this individual one of the few of this species seen on L.I. this winter, or is it a new arrival that will continue northward ?
