Went to Shawangunk Grasslands N.W.R. this afternoon and it was worth the trip. Almost as soon as we got there around 2 pm or so the fields were a buzz with raptors. Had at least 6 Short-eared Owls, 1 Rough-legged Hawk, 4+ Red-tailed Hawks, and 7+ Northern Harriers including one adult male. The owls and harriers gave excellent views the whole time we were there. And to top it off we had a Barred Owl in a tree next to the exit road just past the feeders as we left. We also had 3 female Common Goldeneyes along Lippincott Rd. in Wallkill as well as 40+ Turkeys along the same road. Also seen today was a Barred Owl first thing this morning across from my friends home at The Springs along the edge of a field in Purchase. Andrew Andrew v. F.
