How and when does a Zebra Finch learn to sing, and what effects does hearing a song have on its brain? How does sleep affect song learning? How does the learning of birdsong compare to the learning of speech in human infants? Learn the answers to these questions and more from Ofer Tchernichovski, PhD, who studies animal behavior and the dynamics of vocal learning and sound production at the Laboratory of Vocal Learning at Hunter College. The lab aims to uncover the specific physiological and molecular brain processes that underlie song learning. Tchernichovski holds a PhD in zoology from Tel Aviv University and is a doctor of veterinary medicine. The NYC Audubon Lecture Series is free and open to the public.
