Greetings. This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of 
June 28, 2021

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)
------------ 

     CERULEAN and PROTHONOTARY WARBLERS continue to be present at the forested 
area of Armitage Road west of Rt. 89.
     7/2: An ORCHARD ORIOLE was found on Railroad Road off of VanDyne Spoor 
road.
     7/3: A LEAST BITTERN was seen at Tschache Pool.
     7/4: A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON and 3 SANDHILL CRANES were seen on the 
Wildlife Drive. A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen at Guy Baldessarre Marsh.


Cayuga County
------------

     7/1: A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was seen on West Bay Road in Fair Haven. 
     7/2: A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was seen at Fair Haven State Park.


Onondaga County
---------------

     6/29: A LEAST BITTERN was found at Hamlin Marsh off of Wetzel Road. 2 
SANDHILL CRANES were seen on Babcock Road west of Baldwinsville. They were seen 
again the next day. 2 GADWALL were seen from the Marshy Spits area on the west 
shore of Onondaga Lake.
     7/2: A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON and 2 RING-NECKED DUCKS were seen on the 
Seneca River ble=low the dam in Baldwinsville.
     7/3: A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was heard from Cashin Drive in 
Fayetteville.


Oswego County
------------

     2 families of PIPING PLOVERS continue to be seen at the outlet of Sandy 
Pond on Lake Ontario.
     6/29: An ORCHARD ORIOLE was found on the SUNY Oswego Campus.
     6/30: An ACADIAN FLYCATCHER was found on Gray Road south of Oswego.A 
BONAPARTE’S GULL was seen at the outlet of Sandy Pond on Lake Ontario. A 
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen on Kibbe Lake Road north of Oneida Lake.
     7/4: An ACADIAN FLYCATCHER was heard on the Sithe Energy Nature Trails on 
Lake Ontario. A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen at Lock 2 on the Oswego 
River in Fulton. 2 RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were seen on Shore Oaks Drive on Lake 
Ontario in the Town of Scriba. A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was seen at the Oswego 
County Airport. A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was seen at Bernhard’s Bay on the north 
shore of Oneida Lake.


Madison County
------------

     7/4: A SORA was seen at the Madison County Impoundment north of Hamilton.


Oneida County
------------

     RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS continue at Verona Beach State Park at the east end 
of Oneida Lake.
     6/29: A SEDGE WREN was found south of Poppleton Road east of Oneida Lake. 
     7/3: 3 RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS were seen in flight at Lock 21 of the Erie 
Canal east of Oneida Lake.


Herkimer County
------------

     SWAINSON’S THRUSHES continue to be found in the Big Moose area of the 
Adirondacks.
     6/29: 2 RED CROSSBILLS were found at Little Moose Lake south of Old Forge.
