Canada Goose - around 20 Wood Duck - 2 males (Harlem Meer & the Pool) Northern Shoveler - 83 Gadwall - 23 Mallard - 85 American Black Duck - 1 male at the Pool Green-winged Teal - female at the Pool (Kate Wodell) Ruddy Duck - 10 American Coot - Reservoir (Kate W. - before walk) Ring-billed Gull - 1 Harlem Meer (a favorite winter hangout for the species) Herring Gull - 5 flyovers Great Blue Heron - flyover Harlem Meer Red-tailed Hawk - flyover adult Red-bellied Woodpecker - heard Downy Woodpecker - female along the Loch Merlin - 1 flyover Conservatory Garden Blue Jay - several American Crow - flyover flock of 8, 1 perched on Fifth Ave. Marsh Wren - 1 at the Pond SE corner of park (Deb after lunch, seen with 1/2 dozen birders) Carolina Wren - 1 Gapstow mud flats (after lunch, seen with Gig Palileo & Janet Wooten) Blue-gray Gnatcatcher - 1 Conservatory Garden (late, but not a record date for the location) Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 4 Hermit Thrush - 4 American Robin - mostly flovers Northern Mockingbird - 1 Harlem Meer Chipping Sparrow - 10 Dark-eyed Junco - around 20 White-throated Sparrow - 30-40 Song Sparrow - 10-12 Swamp Sparrow - 4 Palm Warbler - 4 (Scott) Yellow-rumped Warbler - 2 (Kate Wodell) Northern Cardinal - a few -- Two Monarchs lingered at the Grassy Knoll Butterfly Gardens. -- The Yellow-breasted Chat continues again today (Oct. 30) at Verizon Plaza, a pocket park west of Bryant Park with many observers.
