I realize this is off topic for NY Rare Birds, but it concerns all who enjoy
Suffolk County Parks and DEC Land in Suffolk.

The DEC is proposing an extension of the current two-day Wild Turkey Hunt
Season in May, to a season which would extend from 1-31 May, beginning in May
2023. Although this does not affect upstate, NYC or Nassau County birding
locations, it has an enormous impact on Suffolk County locations - including
Rocky Point, Preston Ponds, Hunters Garden, Pine Meadow, Camp Hero, Montauk
parks, and other well-visited birding locations in the County. It will also
have a major impact on collecting data for the current Breeding Bird Atlas.

Information on the proposed Amendments can be found on :
DEC.NY.GOV/regulations/propregulations.html. The Amendment is : 6CRR-NY1-40
(Hunting Wild Turkey).

Comments on the proposal will be accepted through 5 JUNE 2022, and should be
addressed to: willdlifer...@dec.ny.gov, with Proposed Turkey Regulations in
the Subject Line.

Please read and send your comments to the DEC before the above deadline.

Thank you -
