This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of May 30 2022 Highlights: ----------- LEAST BITTERN PIED-BILLED GREBE PIPING PLOVER WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER WILLET RUDDY TURNSTONE RED KNOT RED-NECKED PHALAROPE BONAPARTE’S GULL COMMON NIGHTHAWK RED-HEADED WOODPECKER PHILADELPHIA VIREO SEDGE WREN YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER ACADIAN FLYCATCHER OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER SWAINSON’S THRUSH PROTHONOTARY WARBLER CERULEAN WARBLER LAWRENCE’S WARBLER ORCHARD ORIOLE GRASSHOPPER SPARROW PINE SISKIN RED CROSSBILL Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC) ------------ 5/31: CERULEAN WARBLERS were seen on Armitage road and Howland Island. 6/3: A RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was seen in the Main Pool. 6/4: 23 RUDY TURNSTONES were seen along the Wildlife Drive. CERULEAN WARBLER and PROTHONOTARY WARBLER were seen at Armitage Road. Cayuga County ------------ 5/31: An ACADIAN FLYCATCHER continues at Sterling Nature Center 6/3: A WILLET and a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER were found at Fair Haven State Park. A WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER was seen at West Barrier Bar Park in Fair Haven. Oswego County ------------ 5/30: An ACADIAN FLYCATCHER was again seen of Gray Road south of Oswego. 5/31: 7 Shorebird species including RUDY TURNSTONE and RED KNOT were seen at the Sandy Pond Outlet on Lake Ontario. 6/2: An ACADIAN FLYCATCHER continues on Pellet Road south of Hannibal. A PHILADELPHIA VIREO was seen on Kibbe Lake Road north of Oneida Lake. 6/4: 2 SWAINSON’S THRUSHES were heard on Otto Mills Road north of Redfield. A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was seen at Carley’s Mills north of Central Square. A CERULEAN WARBLER was found on Peat Bed Road near Hannibal. Onondaga County ------------ 5/30: A SEDGE WREN continues at Three Rivers WMA north of Baldwinsville. 6/4: A LAWRENCE’S WARBLER (Hybrid) continues at Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville. Also seen there was an ORCHARD ORIOLE.4 RED CROSSBILLS were seen at Morgan Hill State Forest. An ORCHARD ORIOLE was found at Labrador Hollow. Madison County ------------ 6/4: A COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen at Lebanon Reservoir west of Hamilton. 6/5: 40 RED CROSSBILLS were seen at Earlville State Forest. Oneida County ------------ 5/31: A PHILADELPHIA VIREO was seen on Perimeter Road in Rome. 3 BONAPARTE’S GULLS were seen at Sylvan Beach on Oneida Lake. 6/2: A LEAST BITTERN was seen at Delta Lake State Park north of Rome. An ORCHARD ORIOLE was seen at Spring Farm nature Sanctuary south of Clinton. 6/3: A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was seen on Perimeter Road in Rome. 6/4: 3 RED CROSSBILLS were seen on Brandy Lake Trail near Woodgate in the Adirondacks. 6/5: A PIED-BILLED GREBE was seen in the Eckel Road Swamp north of Vienna. A YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER was seen in Waterville.
