This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of February 6, 2022 Highlights ------------ GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE BARROW’S GOLDENEYE BLACK VULTURE KILLDEER LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL ICELAND GULL NORTHERN SHRIKE SHORT-EARED OWL RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET EASTERN MEADOWLARK BOHEMIAN WAXWING EVENING GROSBEAK Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma and Montezuma Wetlands Complex -------------------------- 2/08: An early RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET was seen at South Springs Pool. An EASTERN MEADOWLARK and a KILLDEER were seen near Mays Point Pool. 2/12: A NORTHERN SHRIKE was found at Marten’s Pool. Oswego County ------------ 2/10: An EASTERN TOWHEE was seen at a feeder in Minetto. 2/12: A male BARROW’S GOLDENEYE continues on Lake Ontario just north of the river. Onondaga County ------------ 2/6: A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was spotted at Mercer Park on the Seneca River in Baldwinsville. 2/7: 5 BLACK VULTURES were seen at the Woodchuck Hill Preserve south of Fayetteville. 2/8: A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was again seen on West Sorrell Hill Road south of Baldwinsville. 2/10: 8 BLACK VULTURES were seen on Seneca Turnpike between Jamesville and Manlius. 2 BLACK VULTURES were seen at Lynden Corners in Fayetteville. 2/11: An ICELAND GULL was seen at the Inner Harbor on the south end of Onondaga Lake. Madison County ------------ 2/7: An ICELAND GULL was seen on Ditchbank Road north of Canastota. 2/11: 11 EVENING GROSBEAKS were at a feeder on Carpenter Road east of Sheds. Upwards of 48 EVENING GROSBEAKS continue at a feeder on Hawes Road at the north end of the Eaton Reservoir.
