Manhattan, N.Y. City - Saturday, August 22nd - The likely highlight among all birds noted for Saturday in Manhattan was the Lark Sparrow at Sherman Creek park, which is just north of the eastern end of Dyckman Street and adjoins the Harlem River. Thanks to B. Sadock for initial alert, and with multiple other observers for this bird. Also somewhat notable was a N. Harrier on the deck at one point in this park. There also were ongoing shorebirds being found, in modest diversity as compared with the wider region, but for N.Y. County, which Manhattan is one island in, the numbers of shorebirds have been quite good lately.
Over all of Manhattan, a wide variety of migrants were seen, warblers in particular, with for example a minimum of 18 species of warblers for Central Park alone. A Yellow-breasted Chat was reported at Central Park, awaiting confirmation by eBird review team.
