Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City - Wednesday, August 26 - Many more migrants have arrived, as well as some diurnal passage, and being seen in the park are a lingering Yellow-breasted Chat in the Ramble area, multitudes of warblers with a minimum of 24 species being represented, also a bit more diversity in migrant thrushes with Swainsons Thrush and Veery in the multiple, as well as Wood Thrush. Both species of expected Cuckoos are present, as have been Common Nighthawks. Most of the annually occurring migrant flycatcher species are also present, although some Empidonax-genus species are left to that genus or in a species-pair such as Willow-Alder. Olive-sided Flycatchers are again present. A majority of boreal-forest breeding warbler species are present, with few exceptions. Vireos of at least 4 species are present, including both Yellow-throated and Philadelphia Vireo.
Birds are showing throughout the park, and there is also diversity in migrants being found around Manhattan in general. In some locations, migrants are not that scarce, and in at least a few areas, migrants have been found in good numbers. The lingering Lesser Yellowlegs had still been present at the Central Park reservoir at least to Tuesday, 8-25. Other shorebirds are certainly again present or passing thru. More in a future report.
