Manhattan, N.Y. City - Wednesday, September 2nd - A Yellow-breasted Chat was seen by many, and well-photographed, at Bryant Park in mid-Manhattan. Continuing there was also a Marsh Wren, and a total of at least 16 species of migratory warblers, among species seen there on Wed were Mourning, Cape May, and many other warbler species, a notable increase in species diversity for that park this week. Palm Warbler was reported there, and that species was also found elsewhere, including at Central Park. Swainsons Thrush and Veery were also found at Bryant Park. With a lot of observers, that one park had more eyes per square meter seeking birds than many other locations in Manhattan on Wed. A modest component of the native birds in that park might well have been summering - with no breeding - such as multiple White-throated Sparrows, and some other birds. Many migrants also were noted from a number of other locations in the southern half of Manhattan, in particular.
Other sites around Manhattan certainly held multiple migrants, yet again. A minor increase was seen for N. Shovelers, and Wood Ducks were again found in the multiple. At Sherman Creek park in northern Manhattan at least 6 shorebird species continued. Good birding, with thanks to many finders, alerters, and reporters of various birds.
