N.Y. County -in N.Y. City- including Governors, Randalls, Roosevelt, and Manhattan islands and adjacent waters and skies - Friday, September 4th -
On Governors Island, just south of Manhattan, a Blue Grosbeak in female-like plumage was seen and photographed, and a Dickcissel was again seen, and photographed. Also present there Friday were at least 35 Bobolinks passing thru, and a wide variety of other expected migrants. Central Park on Friday held a minimum of 24 species of migratory warblers, with almost all of the boreal-forest-breeding species being found. N. Shoveler numbers there have come up to double-digits now. A wide variety of additional migrants were seen there Friday including multiple Yellow+billed Cuckoos in different parts of the park. Many flycatcher species were present including representatives of the genus Empidonax, and other expected flycatchers. Other parks around Manhattan also featured a wide variety of migrants. Common Nighthawks we’re again on the move in modest numbers, this including sightings at Central Park and elsewhere. Broad-winged Hawks were seen from several locations, including by many observers from Central Park, as were other expected raptor species from around Manhattan and all of the county.
