Manhattan, N.Y. City - Friday, September 18th - A female-plumaged Summer Tanager was well-photographed - Z. Nyugen - at Tompkins Square Park in lower-east Manhattan on Friday.
American Woodcock was a new addition - A. Evans - to birds of the southbound sseason for the county, and also new for Canal Park in lower west Manhattan, found on Friday. Common Nighthawks continue to move across Manhattan as seen from multiple locations. Broad-winged Hawks overflew Manhattan, including over Central Park, in what was by-far the strongest overall flight of that species thru the local as well as wider region on Friday, for this season so far. At least 18 species of migratory warblers were present in Central Park on Friday, Sept. 18th. Among the many species seen was Mourning Warbler. Over 80 species of wild, free-flying birds were seen just in that park on Friday, with far more for all of Manhattan and N.Y. County.
