N.Y. County -in N.Y. City- including Manhattan, Randalls, Governors, and Roosevelt Islands and the adjacent waters and sky - thru Sunday, September 20th -
At Randalls Island among many other species, a Summer Tanager showed, one among the higher-than-expected fall sightings of this species already documented in this county. A Dickcissel showed at Inwood Hill Park in n. Manhattan, that also a species turning up in higher than the usual lower number anticipated this early in the season of southbound migrations in this county. Over the county, at least 20 species of warblers were found on Sunday with at least 19 of those twenty species seen at Central Park by observers unruffled by forecasts of real rain - of which there was some, while much of Sunday was mild, humid, rather overcast, and still featured over 100 species of birds in the county. Birds such as Veery, Great Crested Flycatcher, and others typically of slightly earlier peak-departure timing were still being found in the county. Other areas of the county also featured many migrants again after very active migrations on prior days. Thanks to rainy-day observers and photographers for Sunday sightings, alerts, and reports of many migrants.
