Yesterday 9 Whimbrel were seen from a kayak in the cove/creek behind cedar
beach point at Cedar Beach County Park near Southold (I believe the nearest
hamlets are Cedar Beach and Reydon Shores). Walking from the parking lot south
along the narrowing peninsula (especially at low tide) will also afford views
of the wetlands. During a walk here (my only other visit to this park) on
8/7/06, 7 whimbrel were present! Also, on Friday evening a common nighthawk
was seen on private property in Aquebogue.
