Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)

8/25: The AMERICAN AVOCET found last week at May’s Point Pool was refound
and has continued up to the 30th. There has been no report on it today yet. A
RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was seen on the 25th. and the 26th. but not seen since. An
additional 12 species of shorebirds were seen on the 25th. including
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER and SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER.
8/26: 3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were found at Knox-Marsellus Marsh.
These unique birds are being found on a daily (nightly?) basis at this
location. 4 SHORT-BILLED and 3 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS were found in May’s Point
Pool. Two other Dowitcher species could not be accurately identified. 2
SANDHILL CRANES were seen at the Visitor’s Center.
Onondaga County

The COMMON NIGHTHAWK count at the Temple Adath Yeshuran cemetary added
five birds this week
8/25: A GREAT EGRET was seen in Dead Creek west of Baldwinsville.
8/30: A YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER was found at Labrador Hollow on the
boardwalk.
Madison County
------------
8/25: At the Turf Farm on Lakeport Road north of Chittenango - 1
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, 4 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER. At Gee Road, which is east of
Lakeport Road, 2 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER.
8/26: At the Turf Farm - 1 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, 4 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER,
1 UPLAND SANDPIPER. On Ditchbank Road - 1 BAIRD’S SANDPIPER.
8/29: At the Turf Farm - 2 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER.
Oneida County
------------
8/25: 3 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were seen flying over a private residence in
Waterville.
Oswego County
------------
8/28: 90 Raptors of 7 different species were seen migrating over Bishop
Hill Road north of Pulaski. Also seen were 3 local KESTRALS.
