Doug Gochfeld just called to say that he and Scott Whittle have refound the Mew
Gull. I believe that Bob O'Neill (another Brooklyn birder) alerted them to the
presence of the bird.

It was on the water of Gravesend Bay near the foot of the pedestrian bridge
that crosses the Belt Parkway at ~ Bay 16th Street. This is NW of where it was
originally found but still SE of the Verrazano. The bird responded to chumming
( I would assume with bread of some kind), and some flight shots were obtained.
It seems perserverance can pay off with this bird. I would suggest parking at
the first rest area just south of the bridge and walking the promenade down to
the ballfields and back, scrutinizing the gulls both on land and water. Bring
some bread!

Good luck,
Shane B.
