Yesterday morning I joined Tom Kerr and Manny (didn't get the last name) for the CBC walk in Willow Lake Park. Among other things, a COMMON MERGANSER was spotted on the water and Tom suggested that this might be a sighting of interest.
With the wind and cold, we didn't get too much on the land although a Peregrine Falcon flew over the playground. The water was open in a couple of spots and we managed to get around 15 Great Blue Herons in a tiny area near the old bridge. A patch of open water in the northwest corner of the lake held the Common Merganser along with several Black-crowned Night Herons and Double-crested Cormorants (and tons of Mallards and gulls). Although there is no public access to the park, I did notice that the area was visible through the bare trees on Park Drive East, immediately to the north of the playground. Bring a scope, of course!
