Yesterday Heydi Lopes and I went to Four Sparrow Marsh, in Brooklyn, in search of snipe. During our walk around the edges of the marsh we ended up flushing 10 very nervous Wilson's Snipe. We'd hoped to take some photos, but in the end, (and as usual) this wary species was much faster than our camera skills. Also of note Sunday were a pair of gannets at Dead Horse Bay. Shane had called me earlier from Riis Park to say that the hazy conditions on the ocean had pushed some gannets very close to shore. Heydi and I decided that there might be a good chance to see some on the bay. We guessed correctly. FYI - the massive overwintering scaup flock at Dead Horse has been reduced to about 65 birds.
