Here are some highlights from my visit to the Montezuma NWR and environs this 
morning:
 
WAYNE COUNTY - 
 
Carncross Rd at Seneca River:          (6:23 - 6:45)
 
multiple flocks of mostly RUSTY BLACKBIRDS headed north along the river
2 SANDHILL CRANES calling from the Nature Conservancy property north of 
Carncross Rd
1 COMMON MOORHEN  calling from the Nature Conservancy property north of 
Carncross Rd
2 TRUMPETER SWANS flying south towards Morgan Rd
 
Martens Tract:                   (6:50 - 8:30)
 
1 SORA, 1 VIRGINIA RAIL and an AMERICAN BITTERN calling from the reeds just 
north of the lookout
1 WILD TURKEY heard gobbling and eventually seen crossing the field between the 
lookout and Savannah-Spring Lake Rd
1 male NORTHERN HARRIER hunting over the same field
1 NORTHERN GOSHAWK seen in the treeline north of the lookout being harassed by 
some Crows and a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK
RUFFED GROUSE and YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER heard drumming from the woods south 
of the lookout
 
 
Muckrace Flats along Savannah-Spring Lake Rd:
 
12 NORTHERN SHOVELER
25 GREEN-WINGED TEAL
1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS
 
Pond where Crusoe Creek passes under S-SL Rd:
 
plenty of AMERICAN WIGEON
3 BLUE-WINGED TEAL
1 drake HOODED MERGANSER
 
Re-created wetland across from MAC:
