I managed to avoid most of the showers that were in the area while spending a good part of the middle of the day birding in Oswego County.
Noyes Sanctuary - 11 AM to 1 PM - a nice mixture of resident and migrant birds: Cooper's Hawk -1 Barred Owl - 1 Belted Kingfisher - 3 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Flicker, Red-bellied, Downy and Hairy Woodpecker - multiples of each Northern Rough-winged Swallow - 2 Brown Creeper - 2 Winter Wren - 3 Golden-crowned Kinglet - 2 Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 9 Hermit Thrush - 4 BROWN THRASHER - 1 - wasn't expecting to see this one here, but there it was scratching away under some shrubs about 20 feet from the edge of the bluff Yellow-rumped Warbler - 16 Pine Warbler - 5 Eastern Towhee - 1 White-throated Sparrow - 1 >From there, I drove down the street to Sunset Bay Park to see what was going >on there. Turned out to be much of the same as Noyes, but with a brief spurt >of raptors overhead once I looked up.
