The songbirds finally arrived in Brooklyn this morning. Prospect Park
experienced its first fallout of the Spring migration in a big way. I
wasn't out at dawn, but Doug Gochfeld (who I caught up with a little
later on in the morning) reported seeing flocks of birds flying into
the park as the sun came up. Yellow-rumps were still the dominant
species, but there was a very good showing of Northern Parula, Black-
throated Blue Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, Palm Warbler,
Black-and-white Warbler and Northern Waterthrush. My list topped out
at 17 species of warbler, with Worm-eating Warbler being the
highlight. In addition, other birders in the park reported cerulean
and chestnut-sided. A few more new arrivals included Eastern Kingbird,
Wood Thrush, Prairie Warbler, Common Yellow-throat and Scarlet
Tanager. I'm looking forward to tomorrow morning and hearing about all
the other park's activity.
Good birding,
Rob
