Inspired by yesterday's reports from Vinny Pellegrino and Ken Fuestel,
I birded Sunken Meadow State Park (Suffolk Co.) today from 8:15am-2:00pm.
Not unexpectedly, I didn't find all the good stuff they did, but I still
had a productive day, finishing with 70 species (14 warblers) including
the following:

Wood Duck
Solitary Sandpiper (1, rain pool in picnic area at southern end of Field 4)
Lesser Yellowlegs (1, with 2 Greater Yellowlegs, large rain pool, Field 1)
YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO (1, heard only, inner marsh trail)
E. Kingbird
White-eyed Vireo (2, heard only, inner marsh trail)
Warbling Vireo
Red-eyed Vireo (1, heard only, inner marsh trail)
House Wren
Ruby-crowned Kinglet (1)
Wood Thrush (4-5)
Blue-winged Warbler
N. Parula
Magnolia Warbler
Black-throated Blue Warbler
Prairie Warbler
Palm Warbler
Blackpoll Warbler
American Redstart (immature male)
N. Waterthrush
Orchard Oriole (2 females)

Just east of Field 3, where Sunken Meadow Creek passes through a culvert and
tumbles down a rocky embankment, a gathering of egrets (12 Snowy, 4 Great)
formed a hungry gauntlet which hapless minnows swept along by the current
had little chance of escaping.
