Weather for 21-Sep for Central Park (11:51a-12:51p) < http://tinyurl.com/2wrmfq2 >: - Conditions: Clear - Temperature: 69.1 to 70.0 F (20.6 to 21.1 C) - Wind direction: Variable - WSW - Wind speed: 4 - 7 mph (no gusts recorded) ** Total species - 17 ** This was the best birding lunch hour I've experienced in Bryant Park. Two new personal park species were added with a species total that topped the previous high by five. Unfortunately I missed the two target birds, Veery & Chestnut-sided Warbler, reported by Debbie Becker earlier in the day. Two additions to my park list are MAGNOLIA WARBLER & BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER. One of the highlights was definitely seeing so many species in such a small space. The park is listed as 6 acres but most of the activity was seen on the currently closed-off-to-the-public Great Lawn which is listed as 1.1 acres. After 100+ trips to the park, mainly for lunch hours, this was exceptional. Seeing 2 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS feeding on the lawn with 1 SWAMP SPARROW, 1 SONG SPARROW & several WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS along with 7 warbler species may be tough to top in this park. Here's the list in taxonomic order: - Rock Pigeon - 12+ - Northern Flicker - 1 local above the park at tree top level - Gray Catbird - 1 in the SE corner of the park - European Starling - 1 - Northern Parula - 1 on the Great Lawn - Magnolia Warbler - 1 on the Great Lawn - Black-throated Blue Warbler - 1 male on the Great Lawn - Black-throated Green Warbler - 1 on the Great Lawn - Blackpoll Warbler - 1 on the Great Lawn - American Redstart - 2 incl. the continuing male in the SE storage area & 1 female on the Great Lawn - Ovenbird - 1 in the SE storage area - Common Yellowthroat - 5+ incl. 2 males & 3 females mainly on the Great Lawn - Song Sparrow - 1 on the Great Lawn - Lincoln's Sparrow - 2 on the Great Lawn - Swamp Sparrow - 1 on the Great Lawn - White-throated Sparrow - 6+ on the Great Lawn - House Sparrow - 24+ -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/maillist.html 2) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html 3) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
