Led a nice NYC Audubon member's walk this morning along with Glenn Phillips,
NYCAS Executive Director.
We spent a couple of hours working the ballfields, shrubs, and beaches of Ft.
Tilden Park.It was chilly and windy but warm in the sun.
We had large flocks of Brant, HUGE mixed flocks (several thousand) of Scoter,
so many that they looked like smoke along the horizon, mostly Black but with
good numbers of Surf and White-winged as well, Red-breasted Mergansers, several
unidentified flyby peeps, most likely Sanderlings, a couple of loons (including
a possible but distant and inconclusive Red-throated), a couple large flocks of
Snow Buntings, and a Brown Thrasher, among other highlights.  There was also a
huge flock of Red-winged Blackbirds among which I searched for a Rusty, to no
avail.
