Did some birding in the snow this morning. Only real highlight were an immature
Red-shouldered Hawk near the fisherman's lot at Fort Tilden and a 1st year
ICELAND GULL on the beach on the far east side of Tilden. Bad digi-binned shots

Also the Aviator Sports Field at Floyd held 125 Horned Larks and 11 Snow
Buntings. Didn't find any Laplands.
The larks were clawing through the 2-4 inches of snow to get to the bare
ground so you could just see their backs as they each stood in the depression
they had created. The Snow Buntings were more interested in feeding off the few
weed stalks that were still sticking out of the snow.
Veteran's Memorial Pier and Owl's Head WWTP in Bay Ridge held 500+ Ring-billed
and 44 Bonaparte's Gulls but no Black-headed.
Otherwise Jamaica Bay and the Atlantic were relatively bird less, though
visibility was limited due to fog and snow.
