Thank you to everyone who responded on and off the list. The general
consensus is that it is not an accipiter at all, but rather a juvenile
Red-shouldered Hawk. My bad. I responded to Tom Carrolan that we had
actually spotted a beautiful adult red-shouldered later in the day.
These adults have such distinctive plumage that I've never really paid
much attention to the overall shape and gestalt of the bird. I learned
something new today.
