Its windy and very wet out here on the South Fork of Long Island. Before the rain really set in this morning, I seawatched for an hour (9:00-10:00 AM) from East Hampton (Suffolk Co.). The eastbound flight was sluggish but included a couple of notables. Here are the totals:
Northern Gannet - 167 (3/4 were 2nd to 4th year birds, a significant switch from 90% adults the weekend before) *SOOTY SHEARWATER* - 1 (9:14 AM) Double-crested Cormorant - 3 *RAZORBILL* - 5 (9:03 AM moving together as a group) Red-throated Loon - 11 Surf Scoter - 243 Black Scoter - 10 White-winged Scoter - 7 scoter sp. - 8 American Herring Gull - 32 Great Black-backed Gull - 29 Ring-billed Gull - 3 Single *CASPIAN TERNS* continue at Mecox Bay Inet and Sagg Mains, where there were 500 Sanderling, 10 Dunlin, 10 Greater Yellowlegs and three *LEAST SANDPIPERS*, looking unhappy in the intense downpour. Two adult *WHITE-CROWED SPARROWS* were on the west of Hook Pond.
