As of 9:30am there were at least two Prothonotary Warblers in Prospect Park and possibly a third. One bird was reported near the stream that runs behind the Music Pagoda (a short distance from the Boathouse). A second bird was then reported in an area just north of the Brooklyn Zoo. (It was first seen yesterday afternoon by Chris Elliott.) Soon after I received the first text message this morning, I got an update from Peter Dorosh saying that there were actually two at the north zoo area (they turned out to be a male and female). On Sunday I had spend countless hours searching in vain for an earlier reported bird. This morning I just rode up on my bike to find 6 people watching the two cooperative prothonotaries behind the zoo.

I should note that the "North Zoo Woods" is adjacent to the Dongan Oak monument. The parks department recently cleared nearly all of the understory in this wooded area and is using it for storing woodchips/ compost. There is a perennial water source under the bridge next to it so this new, "improved" woodland seems to be attracting a really good number of birds. This morning, in just 15 minutes, I noted 9 species of warbler. On an old map of the park I discovered that this spot is officially known as the "East Woods". Here's a link to a map:
