This morning at 10am, Rob Stone called to inform me that he had just found five BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING DUCKS off Oil City Road at the Wallkill NWR. Myself and many others from both Orange and Sullivan Counties were able to get there to see these great birds. I was able to view several of their legs when the birds would stretch, and no bands were noted on any legs that I saw. Congratulations to Rob Stone on yet another great find and many thanks for getting the word out to us so we could see the ducks. The ducks were still present when I left. Other birds present included Short-billed Dowitchers, Spotted and Solitary Sandpiper, Green-winged Teal and Blacks and Mallards. A yearling Black Bear put on a nice show for us as well. Thanks again Rob, John Haas
