This evening from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, I birded Rockefeller Preserve in Westchester County in search of migrating warblers. The area I had the greatest success was at the junction of the Ash Tree Loop Trail and the Overlook Trail. At about 6:15 I ran into a good sized pocket of migrating passerines at this location that contained about 70 warblers, 15 vireos, and several orioles. I was able to pick out 14 species of warblers from the pack, which included 2 Blue-winged, 3 Black&White, 2 Common Yellowthroat, 12 Redstart, 2 Parulas, 1 Tennessee, 3 Magnolia, 2 Blackburnian, 1 Yellow, 4 Chestnut-sided, 1 Black-throated Blue, 2 Pine, 2 Black-throated Green, and 3 Canada. Also in the group was a Philadelphia Vireo. An Olive-sided Flycatcher flew over the Overlook Trail at 5:30 and several Least Flycatchers were seen in the farm area. 5 species of Woodpeckers were seen around the preserve. Overall, I saw 64 species of birds in the park. Fall migration is definitely underway!!! :) Good Birding! -Lewis Lolya (Westchester Co.) --
