It sounds like there are 2, possible 3 BROWN PELICANS in and around eastern Long Island at the moment. Yesterday, a number of us searched unsuccessfully for the immature sighted on Lake Montauk during the storm (Sunday) however later in the afternoon Vicki Bustamante, Karen Rubinstein and Barb Rubinstein relocated it on the eastern jetty at Montauk Inlet (Gin Beach). Despite their size and distinctive appearance pelicans have a frustrating knack for hiding, especially in areas with extensive docks and channels. I am assuming this is a different bird from the one Joe and company found on Great Gull Island, although the two sites are close enough for one bird.
